Language Arts in 4th and 5th Grade:
This year your child will receive instruction in reading, writing, listening and speaking during the Language Arts block. We will focus on the Common Core Standards along with the current Minnesota English/Language Arts Standards.

Students will improve their Language Arts skills through many reading and writing activities. Students are expected to read each night and keep track of their minutes on their monthly reading calendar. Students will have weekly vocabulary and spelling tests. It is expected that students study for these tests outside of class.

We will do most of our assignments in class with a few long term projects. Some of the projects will require some outside work. Students will use our anthology as well as some novels to improve their reading and writing skills this year.

We will focus on both fiction and non-fiction forms of reading and writing. Please see the weekly homework page on my web site for information about current assignments and due dates.
