 January 31, 2012 -- Laurentian Environmental Center and Groupon's G-Team, the philanthropic arm of Groupon, launched a campaign to start a scholarship fund for Mounds View Public Schools students today. The LEC campaign is available on Groupon's Minneapolis and St. Paul G-Team page now through Thursday, February 2. Utilizing G-Team's collective action model, Groupon followers can pledge support for the LEC scholarship initiative in increments of $8. A tipping point of 56 Groupon contributors or $448 in funds raised collectively by Groupon donors will launch the scholarship fund. Laurentian Environmental Center is a public residential educational facility that combines science, environmental education, leadership training, and outdoor skills recreation programs. It is accredited by The Commission on International and Trans-Regional Accreditation. It is owned and operated by the Moundsview Public Schools for use by people from throughout Minnesota and the Midwest. Education programs are hands-on, discovery-oriented and aligned with Minnesota state graduation standards. Qualified and caring LEC staff lead instruction through an inquiry method of teaching and learning. Each of the program staff holds a degree in one or more of the following areas: biology, natural resources management, outdoor recreation and education, educational psychology, environmental studies, or education.
