Outdoor Survival



Class Description:
Students will be familiar with and demonstrate, through active hands -on learning and group interactions, the basic survival skills that prevent outdoor emergencies and that are needed to sustain life for a 24 hour period. This course focuses on the need for preparation prior to an outdoor excursion.

Learner Objectives:
1) Students list the five basic survival needs.
2) Students demonstrate the survival techniques of shelter -building and fire-starting in a simulated survival situation.
3) Students describe the basic health threats of hypothermia and frostbite in the outdoors and describe appropriate actions and treatments.
4) Students give a presentation on group dynamics and how they accomplish their survival technique goals.
