Enrichment Opportunities
ADVANCED PLACEMENT
This program of college
level coursework includes rigorous requirements and more work than the typical
college preparatory course and carries a weight factor of 1.25 on the weighted
grading scale. In addition, upon completion of the curriculum, students are
encouraged to take the national AP exam for the course(s) and may be able to
earn college credit depending on their performance on the exam. Colleges then
determine whether or not to grant college credit or placement in a more
advanced freshman course. Courses are taught by trained AP teachers and classes
are held at Mounds View High School
and Irondale High School. Options include:
COLLEGE IN THE SCHOOLS This program is operated in conjunction with the University of Minnesota. Seniors who meet requirements may enroll and earn four semester credits at the U of M, while meeting MVHS English and graduation requirements. Selected other colleges and universities will accept these credits as well.
SENIOR EXPERIENCE
Seniors propose an experience for one or two semesters off-site learning during 5th and 6th period. See the course description under the Career Education section.
POST SECONDARY ENROLLMENT OPTIONS (PSEO) The Minnesota Post Secondary Enrollment Options Act enables qualified 11th and 12th grade students to enroll in courses or programs at participating colleges. The purpose of this legislation is to promote rigorous educational pursuits and provide a wider variety of options to high school students. They may enroll full or part-time in non-sectarian courses or programs. MVHS will grant academic credit at the same time the student is earning college credit. Students provide their own transportation, but books and tuition are without cost to the student. Careful coordination with the student's dean is required. ![]() |
