College Entrance Exams

Many colleges and universities now require or recommend that students submit test results as part of their admissions applications. Both the ACT and SAT have been used to assess basic skills and knowledge as well as student success in college.

  • The ACT is a national college admissions exam that includes multiple-choice tests in four subject areas—English, mathematics, reading, and science. The tests measure students' current levels of educational development in these subjects. The Writing Test, which is optional, measures skills in planning and writing a short essay.
  • The SAT is the nation's most widely used college admissions test. It’s taken by more than two million students every year and is accepted by virtually all colleges and universities. The SAT tests the reading, writing and math skills that you learn in school and that are critical for success in college and beyond.
  • The PSAT (Preliminary SAT) is a standardized test that provides firsthand practice for the SAT. The PSAT measures critical reading skills, math problem-solving skills, and writing skills.
  • The PLAN test is a powerful predictor of sucess on the ACT that is given to all Sophomores each year. The PLAN assessment consists of four academic achievement tests (English, Math, Reading, and Science). The PLAN test also includes an interest survey that provides information on possible career fits, as well as link students with relevant college and scholarship information at no cost to students based on their PLAN information.

Advanced Placement Testing

The Advanced Placement Program provides students with an opportunity for learning that goes beyond just facts and figures. The rich course material classroom discussions and demanding assignments typical of AP courses will help your child develop content mastery and critical thinking skills expected of college students.
